Jab un se meri pehli mulaqat hui thi,
Us din hi qayamat ki shuruaat hui thi.
Itna hai mujhe yaad kabhi baat hui thi,
Rasman hi sahi un se mulaqat hui thi.
Khat parh ke khafa to hua aur us ne kya kaha,
Qasid mere bare mein koi baat hui thi.
Kuch yaad nahi bazi-e-ulfat ka nateeja,
Tum jeet gaye the ke hamein maat hui thi.
Main hun woh rah-e-ishq mein mazloom musafir,
Manzil ke qareeb aa ke jise raat hui thi.
Haan yaad hai mujh ko tere gesu ka bikharna,
Barsa tha yeh badal kabhi barsaat hui thi.
Mehroom hun ab khwab mein bhi us ki jhalak se,
Jis rukh ki ziyarat mujhe din-raat hui thi.
Yeh chand yeh tare bhi batate hain chamak kar,
Taqseem tere husn ki khairat hui thi.
Baithe the sar-e-bazm Naseer un ke qareeb hum,
Kal raat ki yeh baat hai kal raat hui thi.

When I First Met Them
When I first met them,
That day marked the beginning of the apocalypse.
I remember so vividly when we spoke,
Even if it was just a formal meeting.
Reading the letter, they were upset, and what did they say?
The messenger had spoken something about me.
I don’t recall the outcome of the game of love,
Did you win, or was I defeated?
I am that oppressed traveler on the path of love,
Who faced the night just as the destination was near.
Yes, I remember the scattering of your tresses,
It was as if a cloud had rained down that monsoon.
Now I am deprived even of their glimpse in my dreams,
That face I used to behold day and night.
Even the moon and stars shine to remind me,
That the charity of your beauty was distributed.
Last night, Naseer, I sat close to them at the gathering,
This happened just last night.
