Kabhi Unka Naam Lena Kabhi Unki Baat Karna

Peer Naseer Ud Din Naseer Kalam

Kabi-unka-naam lena, kabi-un-ki-baat karna,
Mera shoq un ki chahat, mera jazba un pe marna.

Wo-kisi-ki jheel aankhen, wo-meri-junoon mizaji,
Kabi dubna ubhar kar, kabi dub kar ubharna.

Tere manchalon ka jahan mein, ye ajab chalan raha hai,
Na-kisi-ki-baat sunna, na-kisi-se-baat karna.

Shab-e-gham na pooch kaise, tere mubtala pe guzri,
Kabi aah bhar ke girna, kabi gir ke aah bharna.

Wo teri gali ke tevar, wo nazar nazar pe pahre,
Wo mera kisi bahane, tujhe dekhte guzarna.

Kahan mere dil ki hasrat, kahan meri na-rasai,
Kahan tere gesuon ka, tere kandhe pe bikharna.

Chale lakh chal duniya ho, zamana lakh dushman,
Jo-teri-panah mein ho, use kya kisi-se-darna.

Wo karenge na-khudai, to lagegi paar kashti,
Hai 'Naseer' warna mushkil, tera paar yun utarna.

(English Translation)

Sometimes taking their name, sometimes talking about them

My passion is their love, my desire is to die for them

Those lake-like eyes of someone, my madness-filled nature

Sometimes drowning and rising, sometimes sinking and emerging

The reckless ones in your world have a strange habit

Neither listening to anyone, nor talking to anyone

Don’t ask how the night of sorrow passed for your afflicted one

Sometimes falling with a sigh, sometimes sighing after falling

The arrogance of your street, the watchful eyes everywhere

My passing by, just to catch a glimpse of you somehow

Where is my heart’s longing, where is my unfulfilled reach

Where are your flowing tresses, spreading over your shoulders

Let the world plot a hundred schemes, let there be a thousand enemies

One who is under your shelter, why should they fear anyone?

If they take the helm, the boat will surely reach the shore

O 'Naseer', otherwise, crossing over would be difficult indeed
